Isn’t that the truth in today’s SEO game. The problem is, not many people live by it. Internet marketing should be in the forefront of any successfull marketing plan. It’s not 1960′s, the same tactics that worked then don’t work today. In fact, the same tactics that worked yesterday may not work today. Just like any good business plan, your marketing plan should never be stagnant, it should be ever changing and forming to the market, like an amoeba.
With that said, let’s look at some common things YOU can do today to improve your ranks and really drive some targeted traffic to your site. Hit the forums old buddy, get in and be a real contributor, not only will you drive traffic to your site, but in some cases you will actually get some one way links. Crazy, I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag, but there are do follow forums out there. Better yet, there are do follow forums with only a couple posts on them and a PR7. What! PR7 and only 3 outgoing links? Your crazy!!! My parents aren’t watching, I said it. There are some serious perks to hitting the forums. So you may be asking yourself, damn Sean, I hate forums, what else can I do? Have no fear, Sean is here. Depending on what personality you have, you could do some old fashion talking. When your playing golf, “accidentally” drop your business card in the locker room. If I had a dollar for every time someone picked up my business card on the floor and ending up calling me, I would have 3 bucks!. Just kidding, I have actually gotten quite a bit of business doing that in certain establishments. Granted, I wasn’t leaving it behind in Denny’s (sorry Denny’s, I love you)…I was leaving it behind in sales seminars and marketing conventions. It worked.
Now, I am here to tell you that in order to retire successfully, you need to rank. Don’t think of your traditional methods as the only way to make “sales.” As my friend Rick once said to me, the way we look at a personal SEO project is that you put all the work in upfront and 6 months later your getting paid on it. The best part is, once you get to the top and your making the sales and your conversions are working- you can practically retire from the site. Just build links as you see opportunity, anytime something comes up that could benefit your site, do it. You no longer have to put in all the time and effort you did in the beginning- you just have to maintain…it’s your SEO retirement.
Thanks everyone!
