Joomla is a popular open source CMS or Content Management System. Even with it’s popularity very few people actually know how to get the most from it. Most people will turn to free or commercial plug ins to get the job done, but that’s not always necessary and makes for bloated code within your site. From Joomla’s site it is defined as an award-winning content management system (CMS), which enables you to build Web sites and powerful online applications. Many aspects, including its ease-of-use and extensibility, have made Joomla the most popular Web site software available. Best of all, Joomla is an open source solution that is freely available to everyone.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” or un-paid (“organic” or “algorithmic”) search results as opposed to search engine marketing (SEM) which deals with paid inclusion. Typically, the earlier (or higher) a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search and industry-specific vertical search engines. This gives a web site web presence.

So, now that we know what they are we can begin to understand how they can compliment each other. Traditionally, websites were created using static HTML and then uploaded to a server. As the need for more dynamic and interactive sites arose, languages such as PHP and ASP were brought into the equation and the web was never the same.
