It’s critical to have the appropriate marketing strategy and to understand the basics of marketing.

The first and perhaps most important thing you will need to ascertain is your target audience. By understanding exactly who would be interested in your product you’ll be able to successfully introduce it to them in a way that appeals to them directly. For example, if you are marketing a new skateboard video game you would want to advertise to that specific demographic, the male teenager. By identifying your target audience you can maximize the effectiveness of your marketing by staying away from unrelated demographics, retirees for example.

The next step once you have defined your target audience is to decide the type of media you will be using for your marketing campaign. The top four include Television, Internet, Magazine and Newspapers. Your target audience will most certainly dictate which type of media you should focus your marketing campaign on and it’s important to remember that an effective marketing campaign will use several different media types.

The last piece of the marketing puzzle is what your target audience will end up seeing: the ad content. Certain ad content will appeal to certain individuals and by already knowing your target audience you will be able to develop ad content that appeals directly to them. Using the above skateboard video game example, the perfect ad content for this demographic would be a short video trailer on a social media network such as MySpace.

It all comes down to understanding your target audience and giving them what they want to see. Using the above steps as a guide you will be able to develop ad content for a specific group of people and then be able to promote that content in a place they will be most likely to see it. By following these basic principles you will be able to maximize your marketing budget and achieve outstanding results.
